Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz approved the Armed Forces Development Programme for 2025-2039, a classified strategic document that outlines key areas for the military’s future growth, including air and missile defence, drone and counter-drone systems, logistics and troop readiness.

The programme is updated every few years and defines Poland’s military development priorities over a 15-year period, in line with NATO standards, state news agency PAP reported.

The previous version, adopted in 2019, covered the 2021-2035 period.

The defense ministry said the new document "extends the planning horizon by four years" and "organises priorities and translates them into real capabilities."

Among the areas highlighted are air and missile defence, ammunition and stockpiles, unmanned systems and defences, reconnaissance, mobility and logistics, as well as training and operational readiness.

The ministry said that while the development programme itself remains classified, it serves as the foundation for more detailed planning documents, including Poland's military modernisation plan, which outlines future weapons and equipment purchases.

The new programme was reviewed last week by the parliamentary defence committee during a closed-door session, the ministry said.

Poland has sharply increased defence spending and accelerated military modernisation since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, positioning itself as a key military power on NATO's eastern flank.
